Somerville’s Monster Mash Takes Over Somerville Avenue Sunday
The free Halloween street festival runs 1 to 5 p.m. on Oct. 18 with a costume parade, two music stages and pumpkin carving.
Somerville’s Halloween street festival is back on Sunday, October 18, from 1 to 5 p.m. on Somerville Avenue between Church Street and Union Square. It’s free, and the rain date is Sunday, October 25.
The city’s Arts & Culture Division is running a costume parade, pumpkin carving, face painting and local food vendors, with live music on two stages from the BosWitches, Proyecto Tempo, Los Mambiseros and a lineup curated by Mass Ave Music. The festival honors Somerville native Bobby “Boris” Pickett, who co-wrote “Monster Mash.”
“Monster Mash is our chance to celebrate Halloween in true Somerville style,” Mayor Jake Wilson said in the city’s announcement. City Councilor-at-Large Kristin Strezo put it this way: “Where else can you run into your neighbors in costume, a brass band, and giant puppets all in one afternoon?”
